Remember the Victims of Communism

History repeats itself unless we remember and learn from it!

August 23 is remembered around the world as Black Ribbon Day.

Black Ribbon Day, is called the European Day of Remembrance for Victims of Stalinism and Nazism, and originated in the 1980s.

Black Ribbon Day commemorates both victims of Stalinism and Nazism and, more generally, all those who died, suffered, or perished under authoritarian regimes.  It is a  special day and way to remember the millions of victims of Socialism and Communist totalitarianism in Europe.

On August 23, 1939, the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany signed the Molotov–Ribbentrop Pact.

The pact was nothing but “an illegal occupation” treaty that partitioned and occupied nations throughout the Cold War.

But officially was called a pact of non-aggression between Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union that partitioned much of Eastern Europe into German and Soviet zones.

Also, on Black Ribbon Day, we want to celebrate everyone who stood up to those totalitarian regimes, cruel persecutions, death, aggression, and exile.

For years the partition forced people into Socialism and Communism; killed the opposition, jailed many who tried to resist, and exiled the “dissidents.”

Very few people recall the protesting event against Socialism and Communism, on August 23, 1989, when about 2 million people formed a human chain spanning more than 600 kilometers across the Baltic republics.

Today in America many people do not even think about those events or about the atrocities of Socialism and Communism.

Some of them  foolishly believe that adopting a Socialism or Communism system will work wonders in America, and solve all their problems.

Personally, as a freedom fighter and together as people who experienced the atrocities of Socialism, it is our desire and responsibility to remind them of the dangers of totalitarianism governments as part of what Black Ribbon Day is about.

As a human rights attorney in Communist Romania, under the cruel regime of dictator Nicolae Ceausescu, defending human and religious rights, I was declared a “dissident”, arrested, put under house arrest, daily surveillance, beaten, daily interrogated, followed by the Communist Secret Police, etc.

I do not consider myself a victim but a Victor in my fight against Communism.

I survived Communism by the grace of God but many did not!

I am proud that United States never recognized the illegal occupations that resulted from the Molotov–Ribbentrop Pact, and constantly maintained diplomatic relations with the occupied nations, including Communist Romania, throughout the Cold War.

I am grateful to America, President Ronald Reagan and his administration, Congressmen Frank Wolf and Christopher Smith for their work in Communist Romania and for their fight to preserve my life from the cruel dictator Nicolae Ceausescu.

Today, it is my turn and ours to speak up and fight in America against Socialism.

We always have to remember that:

Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn’t pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same, or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children and our children’s children what it was once like in the United States where men were free.

Socialism is not for us.          Not for America.           Not for our children.

We must Fight for Freedom of America!            For US and for generations to come.   

The Baltic republics finally formed the human chain protest in 1989 – after 40 years of cruel Communism. 

We cannot do that to our children !

If we don’t fight for Freedom NOW, our Children will be Forced to Live under the Hell of Socialism.    

Our fight will preserve their freedom.
