Crossing Your Sea

Your Sea - 1

Here you are Monday morning!   Ready for a new week.

You and your team worked hard to prepare a super plan for your goal. You are so proud. It is all done! Your plan has a direct road to that goal. You even prayed for that.

But now you know God is guiding you to a longer road. If you are like me you start asking God “Why? “ Next, you start complaining and even giving him your directions. After all everything looks so clear according to your super plan.

You might think God doesn’t always work in the ways best to you. I have to admit when I find a direct road to my goal I considered it the best. Why a longer road?
I know, it should be very easy to look back in our lives to recognize God’s faithfulness. But, we are too busy for that.

After all, this morning, your focus is on your plan with direct road to it and God who guides differently. Your only response is fear, whining, and despair.

You feel trapped by your situation, between the mountain and the sea; trapped against the sea of questions, doubts, just like the Israelites felt facing the Egyptian army sweeping in for a kill.
You might think you are doomed. It takes too long !

You even asked yourself “where is my trust in God?” Again, you focus back to your plan with direct road to the goal; you complain again.

Often we have to learn tough lessons from repeated experience to change our attitude from hostile or despair to trust in him first. Because he can best guide and provide for us.

When God does not lead you along the shortest path to your goal, don’t complain or resist. Trust him.

He can see your journey from the beginning to the end.

Surely he knows the safest and the best route for you to get to your goal.

He is protecting you from something you cannot see yet.

Follow him willingly and without complain. He will lead you safely around unseen obstacles.

You may not be chased by an army, but you might feel trapped nevertheless.

Choose not to give in despair but call upon the Lord to intervene; and that will change your attitude.
Your new attitude and trust in God will help come to the same conclusion and action as Moses : “Stand firm and ….see the deliverance the Lord will bring.” Exodus 14:13

Because with God even when there is no apparent direct road to your goal or you feel trapped, He will open up a dry path through the sea.

With God you can “… move on… and cross your sea…. Exodus 14: 15

Don’t panic.

God is opening up a way for you today to cross your sea!

I crossed my sea with God many times in my life; under cruel Communist interrogations, arrests, surveillance or house arrest or even now in America daily.

God always has prepared a way for me to cross my sea.

You can read more about this here bellow, as part of Chapter 12 of my memoir Saving My Assassin – https://www.amazon.com/Saving-My-Assassin-Virginia-Prodan/dp/1496411838?ie=UTF8&*Version*=1&*entries*=0

” Officer Lucescu stopped in front of me and said, “You must come with us!” At that, two more officers appeared. Really? Five Securitate just for me?

I didn’t know where they were taking me. I glanced around the street, but not a soul was around. Still, I hoped someone saw these Securitate agents abducting me. I couldn’t just dis- appear. They couldn’t do this to me. Turning left on the next street, I saw two black, unmarked Securitate cars. I had seen that type of car before, from a distance, following me to my office, home, and church. This can’t be happening. My mind immediately shot to my girls. What will happen to them if I disappear? Then I remembered that Radu was out of town on business. What if something has happened to them already?

I looked toward a few shop windows for help, with no luck. I felt alone and already forgotten. I must help myself, but how?

Petrified, I stepped into one of the black cars, followed by two Securitate officers. Nobody spoke. All the officers, including the driver, looked strong, cold, and on a mission. The other officers got into the second car, prepared to follow us. The cars sped across the city, running red lights, finally stopping at the Securitate headquarters—the most-feared building in all of Bucharest. From the outside, it looked like just another business, an old but inviting building. But for many people in Romania, it was the temple of death.

Officer Lucescu was in a hurry, and I had no choice but to follow him through the hall, down several stairs, and down another long hall. Everything looked clean but sinister. I shivered against the cold spirit of the place.

Each office had a tall brown door with a uniformed, armed policeman standing guard. So many of them, and all so young. They seemed proud of their jobs. I pitied them and wondered about their stories, and I imagined a day when Romania would not need them anymore. For now, however, they were the hands and eyes of a megalomaniacal dictator.

I continued to follow Officer Lucescu through a labyrinth of hallways. Finally he opened a door to a small, dark room with no window, only a small desk and a lamp. A musty stink poured out of the room. I hesitated to follow him inside. It must have been their smallest and most isolated interrogation room. God, help me, I prayed. This is the absolute worst place I have ever been.

Several guards circled the room, looking straight at me. I’d heard horror stories from clients about those overzealous young guards-in-training who would do anything and every- thing to show their loyalty and determination in serving the dictator.

This could be the end of my life.

I wiped the perspiration from my face and straightened my shivering spine.

Fascinated by what appeared to him as fearlessness, Officer Lucescu grinned as he asked, “What are you going to do now?” He shone the lamplight straight into my eyes. He kept staring at me, but I couldn’t see him. My face and eyes burned under the light.

I have decided to follow Jesus, no turning back. No turning back!

I put a hand over my eyes, but Officer Lucescu ordered me to look at him. Two guards moved from behind me; one restrained my hand and the other whacked my face. My body recoiled from the strike. I looked directly into the light. Is this a joke to him? I have to be calm. I cannot let my fear take over or they will win. I prayed the words of Psalm 56:3. “When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.” I also prayed that the officers wouldn’t search me. If they were to find the secret paper hid- den in my jacket, they would shoot me for sure.

Officer Lucescu’s phone rang, and he leaped from his chair to answer it. “Yes, sir. I will be there in a minute! . . . Yes, sir!” He looked worried and left in a rush.

Was that screaming voice the voice of Ceaușescu? I wondered. It surely sounded like him. No, I thought. It’s not possible.

The guards stayed quiet for a while, then one of the guards sneezed. I almost blurted out, “God bless you!” but I discerned they probably wouldn’t welcome God’s blessing. At one point, one of the guards whispered, “She is small, but she is tough.”

“How much do you want to bet that she will die within an hour?” one of the others whispered back. Then the betting commenced.

“I bet five,” came a voice from behind me.
“I bet ten,” said another.
I tried to drown them out with prayer.
“I am poor and needy; come quickly to me, O God. You are

my help and my deliverer; Lord, do not delay” (Psalm 70:5). Another verse came to mind: “I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you” (Matthew 5:44). Prompted by that verse, I began to pray for each of my captors, and as I did, an unbelievable peace invaded my soul. As time dragged on, I found myself looking forward to Officer Lucescu’s interrogation. I was determined to stay strong and tell him the truth in love about my legal work.

After all, I reasoned, they are here by human appointment, but I am here by divine appointment. Maybe I am here so they may see Christ in me.

……..

The phone rang again, and Officer Lucescu responded, “Yes sir, Mr. President,” he said, jumping up and standing at attention. His eyes were huge, and his face turned beet red. “Yes, Mr. President! Yes, sir! Of course I will do it immediately, Mr. President.”

My heart stopped. The room went quiet. Is he going to kill me immediately? I started praying and felt peace. My mind and my soul were at rest as I held on to God’s promise: “‘No weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and this is their vindication from me,’ declares the Lord” (Isaiah 54:17).

You are released,” Officer Lucescu said. I looked behind me, thinking he was talking to one of the young officers.

Then I heard several of them saying, “What? She goes free?” “Quiet!” he barked.
Virginia, you are free to leave this place. I will escort you immediately to the gate,” he added, suddenly smiling— almost polite.

As he opened the door to the front gate, he whispered to me, “I know what you would like to say, that you have a powerful god who saved you today from our hands. Make no mistake; our leader is bigger. Your life is still in his hands. Obey him, and you will live.”

I looked straight into his eyes and softly responded, “I hope one day you will know the real God, Christ, who will make you free indeed. I pray for you, that ‘you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free’” (John 8:32).”
